There is no evidence yet that the historic cemetery in al-Shahwan (Mosul, Iraq) has been destroyed (2nd September 2014)

This is the last of five posts that are based on the efforts of the team for Monuments of Mosul in Danger. So far, there is no evidence that the disused cemetery in the al-Maydan neighbourhood has been destroyed.

Again according to Al Noor News, the Islamic State destroyed a disused historic cemetery in al-Shahwan neighbourhood, but it presented no evidence. Nonetheless, as I’ve noted in the other posts, I fear Karel Nováček is right to be pessimistic.

Notes

The Islamic State has also been known as the Caliphate, Da’ash, Da’esh, Da’ish, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
