Fresh evidence points to destruction of Yazidi temples by Islamic State

Hyperallergic have published my analysis and confirmation of new video regarding the destruction of Yezidi temples in Babila. Contact Transterra Media to buy it. I’ve included more frames from the relevant videos here, for comparison.

To confirm the sites, I used TTM’s video, which Êzidî Press showed me, alongside the Êzidî Press videos that originally reported the destruction of two Yezidi temples (which I confirmed as genuine but could not confirm as the temples of Sheikh Mikhfiya and Sheikh Sin).

The destroyed buildings are Yezidi temples

The evidence is confusing, but I think that the first building is the Temple of Sheikh Sin

I think that the second destroyed building is the Temple of Sheikh Mikhfiya

Notes

The name of the Yezidis is also transliterated as Yazidis and Êzidîs.

Babila is also known as Babira and Babirah.

The first temple is also known as the Shrine of Sheikh Sin and its name is also transliterated as Şêx Hesen, Şêx Sin, Sheikhsin and Sheksin.

The second temple is also known as the Shrine of Sheikh Makhfiya and its name is also transliterated as Sheikh Makhfi, Sheikh Makhfiya and Sheikh Mikhfiya.

  1. I just wanted to say thanks for these reports. Though I find them appallingly depressing, I also appreciate seeing hard scientific evidence rather than some of the wilder propaganda claims that the main media rely on. Sadly, I’ve visited some of the Iraqi and Syrian sites which are now destroyed or damaged and your reports highlight just how fragile and transient some of the greatest sites are. Thanks Sam! Kind Regards Linda
