The Islamic State has not been able to destroy the Yezidi Shrine of Sherfedin (Quba Şêx Şerfedîn)

On the 3rd of August, Êzîdî Press @EzidiPress was very clear: ‘The [site of] pilgrimage of Yezidis “Quba Şêx Şerfedîn” in Shingal was not destroyed.’

The message, that the pilgrimage site of “Quba Şêx Şerfedîn” has been destroyed by IS terrorists, is not correct. The pilgrimage site remains standing, Yezidis in the immediate vicinity of the pilgrimage site shared this with us.

On the 4th, it reiterated ‘again a confirmation of one of our correspondents in Shingal: They are standing in front of the shrine “Sherfedin” which has not been destroyed. However, extremists of IS have already destroyed other pilgrimage sites of Shiites and Yezidis in Shingal.’

And, on the 6th, it reassured everyone,

Units of [Kurdish] YPG and Peshmerga have now reached the pilgrimage site Sherfedîn, which was defended for days by [3,000 volunteers in the] Yezidi defense units of Qasim Şeşo. So, despite massive attacks on the pilgrimage site, the IS terrorists have not been able to destroy the place.

Nonetheless, yet again, they face a threat to their very existence.
