Something else Yezidi has been destroyed. It may have been the shrine of Sheikh Sin.

The Êzidî Press (@EzidiPress) has released another video of a ruined religious site. ‘Yezidi holy place/sacred site Quba Sheikhsin destroyed by IS terrorists. [Von IS-Terroristen zerstörte êzîdîsche Heiligenstätte Quba Sheikhsin.]’

Caution

As for the shrine of Sheikh Mikhfiya, so for the shrine of Sheikh Sin: I can’t find it on ArchNet, Flickr, Google Maps, Panoramio, Wikimapia or YouTube. I can’t back-translate Sheikh Sin to get a more useful search term; and I can’t find anything (else) relevant to Sheikh Sin on Twitter or YouTube. I don’t know whether to blame the data, my eyes or my brain, but I can’t find comparable structures in Sinjar on Google Maps, Panoramio or Wikimapia. I hope that I will be able to get sources for comparison.

I found a few non-diagnostic (useless) photos of Tell Sheikh Sin in the Gertrude Bell Archive at Newcastle University.

Minimal confirmation: something Yezidi has been destroyed

There is a very strong resemblance between the gravestones/headstones and pillar-and-roof-style standing tombs at the Sheikh Mikhfiya shrine cemetery and those at the shrine-cemetery of Sheikh Sin, which suggests that this cemetery belongs to the Yezidi community too.

These frames from the video are unclear (from a distance with a low resolution), but the rubble may contain the circular base of the cone/spire of a Yezidi shrine, and the flutes/ribs/ridges of the cone/spire itself – though the “cone ridges”, especially, are unconvincing. The site also appears to be at a high point with a view over a body of water – a reservoir?
